Inaugural RECON was a SMASH
The All Things Recovery Conference also known as RECON was a huge success in its inaugural year of 2019. Taking place at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Midlothian Virginia, August 26-27, RECON2019 made big waves hosting 125 attendees. The conference’s main purpose? To engage, educate and motivate its attendees to apply principles of recovery to both their personal and professional lives.
With over 15 speakers and moderators, the conference was jam packed with workshops, films and presentations all aiming to provide participants with a clear and comprehensive understanding of the status and direction of the fast-moving field of Recovery Support Services in Virginia. The RECON2019 exhibition hall showcased over 10 vendors in the recovery community and allowed attendees to network, socialize and gather in a common space.
Special guest, comedian Mark Lundholm, offered some comic relief Monday evening at RECON2019 with his “Riveting…Dark and Funny” act geared towards his experience with addiction. Post-conference, a CCAR Professionalism Training was held and nearly sold out, attendees snatching up nearly 50 tickets. Here, participants learned the 10 characteristics commonly associated with professionalism: accountability, appearance, etiquette, organizational skills, communication, ethics and boundaries, reliability, demeanor, maintaining poise, and competence.
Thanks to RECON’s 10 gracious sponsors, the 2019 conference was a smashing success and brought together the recovery community of individuals, families, allies and professionals. A special thanks to: The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services, Recovery Ally, PATH Foundation, Faces & Voices of Recovery, True Recovery RVA, Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation, Farley Center, Virginia Pennisula Regional Jail, McShin Foundation and Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.
